People with Disabilities and the Republican Party – Election 2012

If you were only looking at the presidential debates in terms of people with disabilities, here's how it added up:

Obama mentioned either people with disabilities, or disability issues around four times. Each time he did so, it was in a positive light.

Romney only mentioned 'the disabled' once. (He couldn't even use People First Language as Obama did.) What added to the offensiveness was when he said something like, “The disabled will always be taken care of.”

Fuck that! I don't want to be taken care of, I want a job!
The party who preaches that the government and tax payers shouldn't help people can can help themselves, are such hypocrites and/or out of touch with people with disabilities!
I can help myself, I can be employed. In fact, I am employed with Moms in Motion. A Medicaid Waiver Facilitator.

I wouldn't be a so-called drain on society if more focus was given to education and employment for all. But inclusion of students with disabilities in school doesn't seem very important to this country. It's all about seclusion so we can provided services to 'help' them. Services that the Republicans distain and want to cut. If there was more inclusion, many of these services wouldn't be needed!

It's extremely offensive to me, a person with a disability when I hear I “need to be taken care of” and then to hear that I'm a “freeloader” that is dependent on the tax payers that work hard for their paycheck!

I'll give you a need....
The Republicans need to get with it on so many issues. They are so out of touch with so many Americans.

P.S. People with disabilities are the largest minority group in the US.

  1. I am a Republican and as I have explained my view to you before "the U.S. government (not a political party) does not one the disabled population to enter into gainful employment because mainstream work force would take a loss. When you think of all of the titles or positions buisnesses and employees have you will come up with a long list of care takers. These peoples very livelyhood depends on push papers and making decision that they think are in our best interest or suit our needs. If the government created a system where the entire disabled population could enter into gainful employment then they would put all of these people whose jobs are dependent upon the disabled out of work - - - from the U.S. Capital down to the private sector buisnesses like Moms in Motion for example. Furthermore it was proven that the media only used an excerpt from the negative sounding "47% Ad" that Obama filled the airwaves with. Are you going to blog on how much Obamacare is going to cost the elderly and disabled or are you going to believe it is intended to provide us with all of our medical needs? Hell, Obama made his stand that preventative medical care is neccessary to save cost compared to waiting until things are to late. True point as a hole. However, my teeth are rotting out and I cannot afford the "out-of-pocket" cost for preventative care. Yet, nowhere under Medicare nor Medicaid is their dental coverage over the age 22 "except" extractions. What is this for a future I have to look forward to? I have a future of having my teeth rot to the point I end up toothless and eating soft foods because I cannot afford preventative dental care or dentures. I truly hope that you will stand this coin on end and view it from both sides. We, the largest minority in the world, are no more than talking points whether in the politically correct terms or not. No politician from the presidency down to the school board candidate will ever receive my full support until he / she runs on 100% inclusion for the disabled into the workforce, despite those Americans (care takers) who will become unemployed, demoted, or whatever!

  2. being paid ... especially in a seclusion, to care for people with disabilities has been shown to be a slippery slope to extreme abuse.
there is big money in disability services.
why can't we just help one another out, without money being involved? because that would be socialism in the eyes of republicans.

  3. Being disabled is not an entitlement and you know it. You also know our government, both parties, use the disabled for their gain and self-interest. I honestly don't know what you're point here is if you want a job go get one. Republicans aren't going to be the barrier that comes between you and gainful employment the "system" is. This is all I am saying and have been knowing throughout the 29 years that I have been opressed as a person with a disability. You are one special lady who is intelligent as hell! Why have you not gone to TCC, ODU, or wherever and using a Pell grant enrolled in college? You seem to have everything else you need. I will end with this "I love you as a friend and always will. But I come from a hard upbringing and was taught at an early age that no one owes me anything due to my circumstances, especially my disability, and this is why I am proud to stand with the Republican party. I may suffer my entire life from being kicked around and knocked down but one day I will finally reach my goal or proudly die trying. I will not look back and allow the government to steal all my glory!"

  4. i don't think my disability entitles me to anything. i don't think the government can solve my problems. i believe thou true inclusion in school can solve a lot of problems for people with disabilities, number one it will help with employment. Trouble is, is that people assume inclusion in school will cost a ton of money. The republicans will and have cut services for people with disabilities (with no hesitantly) and i'm sure they'll see the cost of inclusion as a service. so inclusion can't even get off the ground because of the assumed cost. i believe not the government, but people will make inclusion happen … if they want it bad enough.
I do have a job. did you read this blog at all?
it is part time. even with a full time job i can not afford to loose medicaid. so i'm stuck in a system that doesn't let people with disabilities prosper as other Americans.
i have a blog about that too. lol! click the tag economics.
